Making oil history through large-scale production of green batteries
The automotive industry and other sectors are shifting away from fossil fuels, creating a huge demand for high-quality, green batteries. Northvolt is set to become Europe’s leading battery manufacturer through large-scale production, vertical integration, automation and access to renewable energy. The company is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, with gigafactories in Skellefteå, Sweden, and Gdansk, Poland, as well as R&D in Västerås, Sweden. Three more factories are underway, located in Gothenburg and Borlänge, Sweden, and Heide, Germany.
Northvolt has committed to power its factories with clean energy. This, combined with circularity within production and battery recycling, make up the blueprint for the world’s greenest battery.
New regulations, companies committing to the green transition and consumer demand for cleaner products has created a perfect storm for electrification. There is a massive demand for sustainable, high-quality lithium-ion battery cells.
